Wan, Yanhai
Wan, Yanhai received a Bachelor of Medicine (M.D. equivalent) from Shanghai
Medical University School of Public Health in 1988. A specialist in Aids
prevention, he has been a research assistant with the Department of Disease
Control of the China National Health Education Institute, an associate
researcher with the Department of Health and Anthropology of Beijing Modern
Management College, a visiting fellow at the University of Southern California's
Center for Feminist Research, a visiting fellow of China Renmin University's
Social Psychology Institute, the coordinator of Beijing's Aizhi Project, a
visiting health fellow at the Yale China Association, and a Fulbright New
Century Scholar at the Center for Sex Study, California State University
Northridge. Currently he is a 2003 Yale World Fellow and the director of the
Beijing AIZHIXING Institute of Health Education. His honors and awards include
the Fulbright New Century Scholar Award, the 1st Awards for Action on HIV/AIDS
and Human Rights by Canadian AIDS Legal Network & Human Rights Watch, a
Defenders' Award by the International League of Human Rights, and a Yale Fellow
Award. His AIDS and sex research led to an interest in the Unification Church
and other cultic groups active in China. Mr. Wan spoke at ICSA's 2000 conference
in Seattle, Washington.
