Tom Sackville
Tom Sackville was born in London in 1950 and educated in the UK, gaining a BA
in Modern History and Spanish Literature from Oxford University. He began his
working life in financial services in New York, specializing in Latin American
debt instruments, before entering British politics. Between 1983 and 1997 he
served as Conservative MP for the Lancashire constituency of Bolton West. During
this period he founded the All Party Committee on Drug Misuse, and served as a
Government Whip, Health Minister and Home Office Minister. In the latter post he
was briefly responsible for government policy on abusive cults. Since 1998 Tom
has been Chief Executive of the International Federation of Health Plans, and a
trustee of several medical charities. He acts as advisor to various business
interests, including a private hospital and a leading UK health IT provider. His
