Mercedes Colwin, Esq.

Mercedes Colwin, Esq., received a Juris Doctorate from Brooklyn Law School in 1990. Since her admission to the Bar, she has had extensive experience in civil rights, employment, public accommodation, housing discrimination, complex construction litigation and products liability. Her vast experience in discrimination matters stems from her position as an Administrative Law Judge with the New York State Division of Human Rights, where she presides over hearings and conferences in cases brought under the Civil Rights Act of 1964 Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, and the Human Rights Law. As a judge for the division, she renders decisions, makes evidentiary rulings, subpoenas witnesses and documentation, determines punitive and compensatory damages, and directs settlements and policy changes. Ms. Colwin is admitted to practice before the courts of the State of New York and the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York. She is a member of the Governor's Advisory Council for Women and the Molloy College Advisory Board for Multi-Cultural Affairs.
