Abstract
The spread of new information and communication technologies has given a new
dimension to the sectarian phenomenon. After reviewing how the Internet has
become important in the religious field, this paper shows how sects use the
Internet, how they present themselves on the Internet, and how they act in
cyberspace. The paper also addresses other topics: groups that stand out for
their activism or publicity campaigns on the Internet, virtual conversions, and
how different groups attack or praise the Web.
