How Should the Communities Movement Handle Questions of Abuse?
Responding to Benjamin Zablocki’s
Proposed “Bill of Rights”
Laird Sandhill
Abstract
The author responds to Zablocki's proposal (in this issue) of a bill of
inalienable rights for intentional communities. Although Zablocki's proposal has
merit, the author suggests that the most important first step is to collect
information and ideas from as many sources as possible, particularly intentional
communities. Instead of a bill of rights to which communities subscribe or not
subscribe, the author proposes that communities respond in writing to a group of
questions derived from the open-ended research. The answers would be available
to all prospective members.
