Reflections on Marriage and Children
After the Cult
Lorna Goldberg, M.S.W., L.C.S.W.
Abstract
Married life within a cult can impact on former cult members’ post-cult
experiences. Among the factors that may influence the nature and severity of
problems that may arise are: the behavior of the cult leader, transference, and
defense mechanisms of projection and projective identification. Although these
processes are common to most marriages, they take on a particular hue in cult
situations. A case example is presented to illustrate these processes.
